Bill Gates by Annie
Bill Gates is chairman of Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft had revenues of US$44.28 billion for the year ending June 2006, and employs more than 71,000 people in 103 countries. Gates was born on Oct. 28, 1955. His father, William H. Gates II, is a Seattle attorney. Their late mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher at University of Washington regent, and chairwoman of United Way International. Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters; he excelled in elementary school, particularly in mathematics and science. At thirteen he enrolled in the Lakeside School which was Seattle's most exclusive preparatory school. There, he discovered his interest in software and began programming computers at age 13. At seventeen he enrolled at Harvard University, and Gates was married on Jan. 1, 1994, to Melinda French Gates. They have three children. Gates is an avid reader, and enjoys playing golf and bridge. 2006, the total value of the property (land and house) is $125 million, and The World's Billionaires has ranked him as the richest person in the world since 1995. Gates is also very kind, because he donates a lot of money to many charity organizations around the world, and because of that, Bill and Melinda received the Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation on May 4, 2006. The reason why Bill Gates is so famous and successful is not because of his wealth, but because of his care about the whole world.
